The idea of setting up a place to worship at home is not new. Many people devote an area of the home for the purpose of creating sacred space. I found that it really was not that hard to do. My decision was to create a small chapel in the attic. My chapel included a worship center featuring religious art. I added chairs facing the altar, Christian Home decor that helped define the purpose of the space. I even added shelves to house my collection of rare out of print LDS books, Catholic stories, books from other Restoration traditions, and even study guides obtain from various Christian schools. When you want different ideas for decorating your child's room, you want to find unique material options such as used books. Using books as a decorating medium is a good choice, because it allows you to add unique decorations that your child will adore. It will just take some planning and creativity on your part to create these one of a kind pieces:

Wall Art

One of the easier ways to use old books is to find ones that have colorful artwork that you can use to create a collage. You simply cut out the pictures and use them as the focal point of the collage. Another great thing about this design is that you can choose characters from different stories and incorporate them into one piece of art for your child's wall.

For example, you can take the hero from one story and a villain from another and past them onto a canvas. Around the characters, you can add different items that the hero could use to defeat the villain. Adding several different items onto the canvas is a good way to allow your child to make up a story that goes with the artwork.

By purchasing used books, you cut down the costs for each piece you do. This reduction in cost can make it possible for you to create a collage for each wall in different sizes as well. Additionally, as your child gets older, you can replace the artwork with different ones that matches their age group.

Secret Storage

Another decoration you can make with used books is secret storage spaces for your child's hidden treasures. The large books with hard covers are ideal for this project, because they are sturdy enough to handle the changes you need to make.

To start, you need to divide the pages of the book, so you have a top and bottom for the hidden space. Then you glue together the pages of both the top and bottom portions. However, it is a good idea to make the bottom portion thicker, since it is the base of the storage container.

After the glue sets, you cut out a portion of the bottom pages to make a hole for the secret storage. It is best to use a sharp craft knife to cut out the section of pages that you do not need. Additionally, you want to cut out the section in small batches, so that the paper is easier to remove.

The idea is to make a space within the book, but leaving the front cover alone. To everyone else, it will be a regular book, but you and your child will really know what secrets the book truly holds.
